AWLF Distinguished Student Award
The 2007 AWLF Distinguished Student Award went to 3L Tracy Schofield. Tracy is a single mother who had the courage to start law school somewhat later in life. In addition to carrying her heavy her responsibilities at home, Tracy excelled in law school--she is on Law Review and received academic scholarships for her second and third years in school.
Tracy was the lead volunteer for the World Family Policy Center for two years and also helped with the International Society of Family Law World Conference. Tracy's summers in law school included externships for Chief Justice Christine Durham and the Human Resource Legal Services Division of the LDS Church. In 2006, she also published Hank, a biography of a former Department of State security specialist.
Following graduation, Tracy will work for the Salt Lake City firm of Rooker, Mohrman, Rawlins & Bailey. In her practice she hopes to live up to this quote from President James E. Faust, "Before the wounds of injustice can heal, there must first come a feeling of peace. So, in a sense, a lawyer who helps make peace becomes something of a healer."
The AWLF Board of Directors is delighted to recognize Tracy as a student who exemplifies the characteristics the AWLF organization seeks to promote. Congratulations, Tracy!
In awarding this honor, AWLF gave equal weight to each of four areas:
- Distinguished academic achievement
- Distinguished contribution to the law school or legal community
- Distinguished community service (including secular and religious service), and
- Overcoming of significant obstacles in pursuit of legal education
