1L Mentoring Program

The Mentor Program was established by the Career Services Office and the Alumni Board to assist students in their career preparation. Each student is matched with a mentor who is a graduate of the BYU Law School. Alumni mentors provide valuable advice about career goals, academic and personal preparation, networking, career alternatives, job requirements, duties and career balance.

Students are asked about the specific practice areas in which they might be interested and are then matched with a mentor who practices in that area. Students that don't have any specific requests are matched essentially at random. Students and mentors are introduced at the Alumni/Student Lunch which is part of 1L Orientation Week. All communications after that are at the convenience of the alum and student. The school prefers, although does not require, that alumni mentors live in the Wasatch Front area so that communications and meetings with students are more easily facilitated. If you are interested in participating in this program, please email Beth Hansen at hansenb@lawgate.byu.edu.
