All of the BYU Law School and J. Reuben Clark Law Society programs are successful because of the talented volunteers who generously contribute their time. If you are interested in getting more involved with the Law School or the Law Society, please take a moment to complete and submit this form:
Advising Network - Members of the Advising Network are designated in a special directory. Network members are not assigned a specific person; they are simply available to answer questions and provide information if a student or attorney contacts them. The Advising Network can be accessed by Law Society members and LDS law students and pre-law students at schools across the country.
Externship Program (Unpaid) - This program is designed to provide a real-life "capstone" experience for students completing their first year of law study at BYU Law School. Under the summer program, students can earn one unit of law school credit for each 50 hours of work under the direction of an attorney/judge (up to a maximum of six units). Most students complete four credit hours in five weeks. For more information see the Career Services web site: http://www.law2.byu.edu/career_services/externships/externshipprogram.php.
Guest Speaker/Lecturer - The purpose of the BYU Law School's Professional Development Lecture Series is to expose students to a variety of practitioners and their areas of practice. Guest lecturers are the backbone of the class and volunteers are always needed.
J. Reuben Clark Law Society Chapter Leadership - The Law Society has local chapter as well as International Board leadership service opportunities.
School Competitions - Each year the BYU Law School holds numerous moot court, ADR and negotiation competitions. Practitioners are always needed to act as judges for these events.
Starting a Chapter of the Law Society - If your city does not already have a chapter and you have a critical mass of interested attorneys, the Law Society International Board can help you organize one. For a list of current chapters, see http://www.jrcls.org/chapters/chapterslist.htm.
BYU Law School Alumni Class Representative - Each class has three representatives that work on such things as alumni reunions, giving and membership. For more information, contact Roberta Lawler at lawlerr@law.byu.edu.
Community Service - I would be willing to assistant the Community Service Committee. My areas of interest include:
Lawyers @ Lunch - No sign up necessary. If you plan to be in Provo and would like to meet with Law Students, the School will arrange a small group lunch for you at the Skyroom (on the school's dime). Please call Beth Hansen, 801-422-4572 to arrange a lunch. Two weeks notice is appreciated.
